About this issue
This inaugural issue records and analyses developments across Europe and Asia between 1 July and 30 September 2026.
The issue first establishes the record, then argues from it. A Snapshot isolates the Washington state visit of 23–25 September, because the two governments closed the quarter by publishing separate accounts of the same meeting. The quarter is then read under six lenses — politics, diplomacy, technology, society, climate and energy, and business — placed in order in a chronology, and measured in the economic results of Europe and Asia, using the latest official quarterly accounts.
Section E reads the two regions together, comparing patterns rather than scores: Europe integrates through rules, Asia through production. The analysis advances one proposition, the terms of connection changed, not the fact of it, tests it against the opposing reading, and sets it beside the World Economic Forum’s surveys.
Three commentaries follow: The Other AI Race, on power, work and human control; Managed Rivalry Inside Continued Trade, on the wider direction of the quarter; and Viet Nam’s Growth Test, on scale, spillovers and the middle-income trap. A column by Farhat Ali on Asia and the Middle East follows, and the issue closes with the editor’s words: a wish for business leaders and policymakers working between Europe and Asia.
A reported result, the journal’s argument, its commentary, a signed opinion and the editor’s closing wish are kept in separate places, so that one is not mistaken for another.
